Tax Cuts and the Job Act – What it means for Business Owners

Our Panelists:

Robert B. Canter is a seasoned commercial tax lawyer who chairs the Tax Department at the law firm of Shulman Rogers. Mr. Canter understands how to develop tax-efficient deal structures which not only create real value (i.e., tax-savings) for his clients but also positions their companies for future growth. Mr. Canter has been entrusted with many clients’ “bet-the-company” business transactions involving complicated tax issues for over three decades. He has earned this trust because he is consistent, reliable, produces excellent work product and is a pleasure to work with. With his background in federal income taxation matters, Mr. Canter has assisted a large number of clients in obtaining tax-exempt status and complying with tax and corporate governance rules applicable to tax-exempt entities. In addition, he frequently handles appeals to the Internal Revenue Service of proposed tax assessments and the preparation and submission to the Internal Revenue Service of requests for private letter rulings.

Jorge L. Rodriguez is a seasoned professional with more than 25 years of public accounting experience and a partner in Aronson’s Tax Services Group. He is known for delivering a broad, in-depth tax perspective, informed by his deep, wide-ranging industry knowledge, to every engagement for the benefit of his diverse clientele. Jorge specializes in federal tax consulting and compliance with a special focus on M&A transaction structuring, planning, and modeling. He routinely helps his clients resolve highly complex tax matters including: entity formation, classification, and conversion planning issues; accounting method and period elections and changes; consolidated tax return filling elections and tax accounting concerns; Sec 382 analysis and study; and all aspects of ASC 740 compliance involving purchase accounting and foreign operation reporting areas.

Joseph Statter is President of Evergreen Advisors Capital and oversees their Metropolitan Washington Office of Evergreen Advisors in Tysons Corner. Over the course of his 27-year career in principal investing, financial management, public accounting, and investment banking, Joe has executed a broad spectrum of transactions including: private placements of debt and equity, mergers and acquisitions, convertible and high yield debt, IPOs and follow on equity offerings, and restructuring/bankruptcy advisory engagements. His expertise spans multiple industries, transaction types, and stages of company development. Over the past 20 years, Joe has been focused on advising high growth companies across the converging value chains of the communications and media industries.
